Students will prepare for the rigors of college writing by mastering the essay and research paper. Critical thinking skills will be emphasized. ADHD, neurodivergent, high-support needs, and reluctant writers will enjoy the clear sequential approach.


Class will be in session Monday, 2:30- 3:15 (45 minutes) begins September 26, 2023 

NOTE: Individual  tutoring will be provided for learners who may need a bit of individual help with the writing process and/or  literature interpretation. 


Learners who complete the course will be able to:

  • Recognize the different types of research paper
  • Compose a college-level thesis statement.
  • Take and compose the four different kinds of notes
  • Use a manual/ digital note card system for collecting notes.
  • Organize and outline the paper according to the topic.
  • Properly cite sources in the paper according to MLA, APA, Chicago, etc. standards as necessary
  • Create a properly formatted reference/ works cited page.
  • Draft and revise an informative and/or persuasive research paper written at an acceptable college level.
  • Respond to feedback on their writing through revising and proofreading.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and ease when doing timed writing such as essay exams, standardized tests, etc.
  • Master how to approach an English and/or college writing syllabus and common assignments.
  • Respond to online class discussion boards.


CLASS Protocol:

Students will access the online classroom during the week and meet live via Zoom for 45 minutes where they will engage in timed writing assignments, shared reading and lesson discussion. We will be using college prep multicultural literature Learners will read award wining literature,  from First Nation people, Caribbean, Black, Latin X, African-American and women authors. These materials will be posted in the online classroom. Learners will have the opportunity to interact with the instructors (Professor Carter and Ms. Yasmine Bolden) in the online class discussion area. 



Cost :$28.00 per class or $112. 00 per week.
